5 LESSONS FOR WRITING A SUCCESSFUL ROMANCE SERIES
I’m absolutely buzzing with excitement to finally introduce myself ahead of the upcoming launch of my first book. I’m Anaca, a voracious reader of all romance subgenres. Hey there, brilliant readers!
Writing has been deeply cathartic for me. There’s something inherently magical about the romance genre—it lets us be emotionally honest in ways we might never dare elsewhere. Romance gives us permission to “feel our feelings”: the butterflies, the heat, the vulnerability, the power.
In crafting a romance series, I get to explore the full spectrum of human connection. The process has been equal parts discovery and creation, beautifully messy and completely non-linear. Some days I’m building entire arcs that span multiple books, mapping how everything interlocks. Other days I’m rewriting a single paragraph, hunting for the perfect word to convey a character’s truth. I’ve scrapped whole plotlines that weren’t serving the story and experienced 3 AM breakthroughs that completely changed everything. At times, I felt like I was building a house of cards in a windstorm—but that’s exactly what made it feel so real, so authentic.
Right now, I’m nearing the finish line with my first novella, The Mayor, in The Haven series. I literally get goosebumps thinking about sharing these stories with you!
Here are the lessons I’ve learned while launching this series:

- Maintain a stick-to-it mindset.

- Draw inspiration from real-world conversations and observations—they often spark ideas that shape characters’ personalities, motives, and backstories.
